Comments from the author about writing:
I've wanted to write ever since Mrs. Kiger, my fourth grade teacher at Bailey Park elementary school in Grinnell, Iowa read Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series aloud to our class. (Note to Mrs. Kiger: Lucky for me, being forced to taste cow tongue--the closest thing you could find to buffalo tongue, the delicacy the Ingalls family enjoyed--didn't put me off reading and writing forever!)

Writers are routinely told, "Write about what you love," or "Write about what you know." I write about books, libraries, and my two children.
