Comments from the author about writing:
I am a "late blooming" writer. Throughout
my forty-two year teaching career I participated in roughly 1500
parent teacher conferences. All of the parents I conferenced with wanted their
child to have a successful school experience, but many were unaware of the
little things THEY could do to help to ensure such an outcome. I decided to
address the situation when I retired from teaching - at age 61. I wrote From
the Teacher's Desk, a 247-page book for parents. In the book I
offered suggestions, but I did not preach. I discussed serious issues, but I
presented them with humor. I expected my book would be a "big deal" in my
hometown, but remain virtually unknown to the rest of the world. I was wrong.
Several thousand copies of the book sold during the first year (2004), and
orders continue to trickle in yet today. And I'm still writing.
To date I have written selections for two
anthologies and one reference text, 250 weekly newspaper columns (From the
Teacher's Desk), and more than fifty articles for magazines and academic
journals. And I have a new mantra: IT'S NEVER TOO LATE AND YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD
TO TRY SOMETHING NEW.
