2019 Letters About Literature Program Now Accepting Student Submissions

The Iowa Center for the Book is now accepting online submissions for the 2019 Letters About Literature program, a statewide student reading and writing competition sponsored by the Library of Congress Center for the Book.

This is the first year that letters will be submitted online instead of through the mail. Letters must be submitted to the online portal by Jan. 11, 2019

Letters About Literature is a national reading and writing competition for students in grades 4 through 12, who write a letter to an author explaining how that author’s work changed their way of thinking about the world or themselves. Readers respond to the work they have read by exploring the personal relationship between themselves, the author, and the book's characters or themes.

There are three levels of competition, with cash prizes in each level for first, second, and third place as well as honorable mentions. First place winners go on to compete at the national level.

For more information and a link to submit letters, go to the Letters About Literature webpage.
