As a child, I roamed the mountains near my home in Sunshine Canyon. From that time, nature has been a steadfast inspiration in my life and work.
I inherited my artistic parents' love of art, books and nature and was encouraged to refine my skills as an artist.
I studied fine art, graphic design and illustration at various universities. Ultimately I combined my love of science and art, and earned a degree in Biological and Pre-Medical Illustration from Iowa State University.
As an artist, I've worked in various fields: scientific illustration, animation, graphic design, nature painting, licensing and gift design.
After many years, I turned my artistic attention to my strongest, heart-felt passion - writing and illustrating stories for children. I work traditionally using mixed media, watercolor, graphite, encaustic and digital media. I am the Iowa Illustrator Coordinator for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators
