Programs Available from the University of Iowa Center for the Book

To explore opportunities for speakers, workshops, and conferences, it is safe for you to assume that all University of Iowa Center for the Book (UICB) staff and Associates have active book-related interests and would be delighted to work with libraries or library-related groups on programming opportunities.

On the main page of the UICB Web site “People” and click on “Staff” or “Associates”.

Entries for nearly every member of the UI faculty and staff have a link to their individual web page. Click on this link to explore their interests, and then contact them directly about your program needs.  For the most part, Associates are always prepared to speak or facilitate discussion on subjects related to their scholarly or professional specialties. UICB staff who teach book technologies are often available not only to speak but are also able to coordinate or assist with hands-on workshops. Both faculty and staff can often recommend qualified graduate students if they themselves are not available.

Most faculty and staff will expect to be reimbursed for direct travel expenses; a few may be able to charge expenses to their own budget. Some faculty and staff will expect or require an honorarium. Institutions and organizations will always be expected to bear the expense of materials required for hands-on workshops or to charge and collect fees from those attending.

If you would like to discuss your needs for a UICB book specialist speaker or workshop instructor before visiting the UICB website, feel free to contact Tim Barrett.
