Mike Wright Appointed to Iowa Center for the Book Advisory Council
Interim Associate University Librarian, Collections and Scholarly Communication, at the University of Iowa Libraries, Wright will join the Council as one of three Regents representatives.
State Librarian Mary Wegner has appointed Mike Wright to a three-year term on the Iowa Center for the Book Advisory beginning November 2014. "Mike is a well-known and respected leader in the Iowa library community. His advocacy for reading at the state and national level will add strength to ICB and our purpose," said Robin Martin, Coordinator for the Center for the Book.
“Anyone who knows me at all knows that I have a longstanding commitment to protecting and promoting the freedom to read. People must be able to read widely and without interference. Libraries are places that make this happen, and it’s exciting to be able to contribute to an organization where the mission includes promoting interest in books, reading, literacy, and libraries.”
Wright got his BS degree from Central Michigan University and received his MA in Library and Information Studies from the University of Minnesota. He has worked at libraries in Minnesota and Pennsylvania, as well as at Drake University and Simpson College here in Iowa. Mike also was OCLC Services Coordinator for the now-defunct Bibliographical Center for Research (BCR) based in Denver.
