Dear Gary Mack and David Casstevens,
"GOOAAALLLL!" That's what every soccer player waits for, the screaming of the crowd after you score a goal. I was never able to hear that until I read Mind Gym. When I would go to score, I would always think "don't miss," or "don't go wide." The ball never went into the back of the net. I couldn't figure out why! I would practice my shooting, but when it came to game time I still could never score a goal. My coach showed my whole team your book. He said that it might help us, so I thought why not give it a try.
When I read your book it taught me about my mind and how it works. I didn't realize that when you tell your mind to do something it will do what you tell it, but switch it around so it is positive. When I would tell myself "don't miss," it would switch it and take it as a positive and miss. When I would tell myself "don't go wide," it would again switch it to a positive, and go wide!
I thought about this concept for a long time. Then I finally really understood it! If you think positively about scoring then you will most likely make it, or have a better chance of making it.
The day I was finished reading your book I went into my backyard and took some shots on goal. I tried your theory out. When I would tell my self "go in," it would! When I would tell my self "don't miss," I would miss! It was amazing to me that all this time if I would have just been thinking positively I could have made so many goals!
Now when I go to score a goal I think “go in,” or “hit it hard.” Unlike before, the ball usually goes in the back of the net! Your book has taught me so much!
I now take penalty kicks for my team. In the semi-finals of a tournament, one of my teammates was hurt in the box. We got a penalty kick. My coach told me I was the chosen P.K. taker. I was so nervous! All I thought was, “it’s going to go in.” I looked at the ball and shot. ‘GOOAAALLLL!” The scream of the crowd filled my ears. All of a sudden my teammates were jumping on me, so excited we could barely stand it! I was the hero of that game just by thinking positively, and scoring the goal.
I have recommended your book to my other teammates, and now instead of thinking negatively, we always think positively. We all believe this book has helped our team a ton! In life, I believe it has also helped me become more of a positive person. Now when anything challenging happens, I think of the positive and usually succeed!
