Dear Jodi Picoult,
It all started when she was 4, we all came to the hospital and had to wait in the waiting room. My mom came out, she had a heart murmur. The doctors said they had to do surgery on her. My older sister and I were worried; we didn't know if she was going to die, none of us did. She had to stay in the hospital for a few days overnight. We were all anxious to see her and even to know she was going to be okay. She ended up being just fine but in result of this condition she has to live with being smaller in size than everyone else her age.
Of all the characters in My Sister's Keeper I feel I can relate most to Anna. She has a sister who's sick and she was born to save her. I wasn't exactly born to save my sister but I know if I was I would do whatever it takes to keep her here with us. My sister means a lot to me and we fight and don't get along at times like Anna and Kate but were always going to be there for each other. Avery is like Kate in the way that she looks at the good thing s in life and forgets about what's different about her. She's the kind of person that you can't not be smiling and be happy when you're around, she makes you feel important and proud to be who you are, and I know that I wouldn't even have to think about it if I had been chosen to save her. In the book their mother is always so worried about Kate's well being and doesn't let her do all the things normal kids can do. I think it's so important to treat your sibling or child the exact same way you would if she was no different than you, I think that can go a long way with that person by making them feel like you don't see a different person when you look at them. Your book really made me think about what's important to me and what's important in life, that if I want to do something I need to go out and do it. Life's short, and you're not going to be able to do everything you wanted but you can get pretty close.
Overall My Sister's Keeper taught me to love every moment you have with your family because you never know when a time is your last. Also, that one action can change your whole life, so it better be something you want and know is right. To never go on with regrets everything happens for a reason and everything you did or might do happens for a reason. Lastly, the main thing I got out of your book is no bond is better than a sister's, they are forever and will always love you no matter what you do or what you say It's something that will always be there even if you're not.
Sincerely,
Halle Lueck
