Dear Mike Lupica,
Has anyone ever told you that dreams come true? They do, but that's not the whole truth. Your book taught me that.
In your book Long Shot, Pedro works really hard and never stops. He is the type of person where quit never enters his vocabulary. This book inspired me to never give up and keep working hard to reach my goals. Last summer was my first year of minor league baseball. I wanted to be catcher, a lot! At first, I wasn't very good. For example, I wasn't ready for how fast the pitcher would throw the ball, and I would miss the pitch or drop it. But I kept trying. I practiced hard and got a lot of encouragement from my parents and coaches. Finally I got the position I wanted, just like Pedro! I got to be catcher on the Culver's baseball team. Like Pedro, I felt more like I was part of the team. In the end, I was glad for all the hard work I put in to it and all the encouragement I got from my parents, coaches and team-mates.
Yes, dreams can come true, but not like in fairy tales. You need to work hard and strive to reach your goals! Then, your dreams can come true.
