Ames Middle School, Ames
Dear Mrs. McDonald,
Your book, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle was more than a book I read when I was just learning to read, a bunch of funny stories, or even an amazing person. It is a book that connects me to my grandma. She has always been there for me and she’s always teaching me life lessons, just like Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle does to all those boys and girls. She shows me is that that not everything in life has to be dead serious. Mrs Piggle-Wiggle taught me the difference between thinking positive and being positive. As cliché as it sounds, I want to be like Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle when I am older. She is like the neighborhood grandma, whom anyone can seek help from. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle taught me that good character is important and that helping someone out is a reward by itself.
Most of my family lives in India, so I only see them once every two years. My grandma is the only person I see often. Since she’s 85 and has arthritis, a 22 hour plane ride is not easy to sit through. Every time she comes to America, she stays for six months. I don’t think I even know where the living room is for the six months she’s here. For me, it’s her room.
My grandma always tells me lots of stories. Almost all of them have morals. She reminds me of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle so much. She’s always happy and has a real way with kids. I don’t remember one time my grandma has even made a stern face with me. She always has a great way of explaining anything. She looks at everything with a positive perspective, which I think is truly magnificent. For me, her personality is flawless. Each and every time I read this, I think about how astounding it is that my grandma and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle are so alike.
It’s amazing how a book that most seven year olds read has so much depth. It reminded me how little things make a difference. For me, this book had a lot of indirect lessons that went from picking up your toys to never hurting anyone. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle also demonstrated a lot of positive perspective. This is something my parents, my grandma, and my teachers explain me I’m an interactive learner. I don’t understand stuff as well unless there’s a story I can relate to, but this book gave me great examples. I think it’s incredible that Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle could turn any situation into a positive one. She showed me that not everything in life has to be so serious and that it doesn’t hurt to take it easy. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is a great example of optimism, turning even the most awful situations, like bullying, and giving it a positive spin. She can make any kid realize their mistake and fix it.
I look up to Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. She’s a profound woman of wisdom that she shares with everyone with a gentle approach. Another thing I love about Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is that she likes to spend time with kids rather than adults. She told me to never let the kid in me fade away.
“One day I saw her digging in her garden wearing the jeweled crown and with her hair billowing down her back. She waved and said, “I promised Betsy that I would not touch this hair until she came back from school.”
That passage in the book reminded me to always keep my word. That a promise is a promise.
Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is an excellent example of character. She is so generous, always helping everyone and expects nothing in return. She depicts a vivid picture of unconditional love. Not only that, she has such an awesome personality. With a creative imagination and an upside down house, she exhibits a layer of humor in her lessons.
“Nobody knows how old Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is. She says she doesn’t know herself. What difference does it make how old when I shall never grow any bigger.”
That passage in the book taught me to filter out the unimportant things and focus on the things that really matter.
When it comes to the world around me, this book has opened up my eyes. It’s a true testimony on how being positive has not only a big impact on your life, but also influences everyone around you. “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” I feel that Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle gives tons of kids the inspiration they need to change the world around us. Opening the door to optimism, character, and creativity. Mrs Piggle-Wiggle shows me a new way of thinking. I realized that I’m already on my way to great character and morals. I love volunteering and my parents are always really supportive about it. They help me jump on any opportunity I get to help someone out. That’s something Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle got me interested in. I love the way I can connect to every kid in the book and how the stories teach me so well. I enjoy the morals and the meaning behind them. I know this book has changed me because I try to think more positively. Remembering Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is always helpful when I need a boost of energy. Whether it’s doing laps in P.E. or doing my chores, she always reminds me to stay positive. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is a person everyone can look up to and relate to in some way.
For me, this story is one with great significance. It is a manifestation of creativity, positivity, character, morals, and love. Thank you Mrs. McDonald, for enlightening me with this book of inspiring stories.
