My dream as a little kid was like many others. I wanted to be in the army. I would get anything that I wanted and not get in trouble. I would shoot all the enemies and become a hero to whatever country I was with. I would get rich, get married, and have kids. It would be the best life that anyone could ever have!

Then I read Going Solo.

Going Solo made me think twice about war. Like when all of the English army in Greece died except seven people, it told me that hundreds of people die every day because of war. It also told me that anything could happen at any given time. Like when you were having a fun life when you were on the ship, and then all of sudden your plane was crashing onto a desert in Africa. It's amazing how so many things can happen so fast.

Going Solo also taught me to never take anything for granted. Like when I would get a new videogame, I wouldn't even say thank you to the person who gave it to me.

But when I read about how you would only get one nice thing a year, it made me say thank you to anyone who got something nice for me.

Ever since I read your book my life has changed. It taught me about how being in the army might not be a very good thing as maybe being a doctor in the war. Even because of that though, you and many other soldiers risked your lives everyday for your country. I also learned to always say thank you and to love everything I have dearly, because I never know when I might lose it.
