Letters About Literature Winners

The 2008 Iowa winners and semifinalists have been announced.  To see the lists of Iowa winners, click on the links on the left.

Two Iowa students were national winners in 2008.

  • Sarah Startz, Iowa Level I winner, was one of the four National Honorable Mentions in Level I.
  • Laura Wang, Iowa Level II Winner was one of four National Honorable Mentions in Level II.

 

Nationwide, approximately 59,000 students entered the 2008 Letters About Literature contest.

There were 1,394 entries from students in Iowa.
474 from students in grades 4 through 6
696 from students in grades 7 and 8
224 from students in grades 9 through 12

The Letters About Literature national office read all 59,000 plus entries and returned the top letters to each state.  In Iowa there were 37 semifinalists at Level I, 38 at Level II, and 26 at Level III.

These letters are added to the Web site as submitted by the student, except we have included only the school and/or town instead of the complete return address.

 

2009 Letters About Literature Program.

The 2009 Iowa winner at each level will receive a cash prize of $50 plus a $50 Target GiftCard and will advance for national judging.  The students who placed second and third at each level will receive a $50 cash prize and the three honorable mentions will receive $25.

At the national level, two winners plus four honorable mentions will be selected for each competition level.  More information about national winners.
