The Iowa Author Awards Dinner Selection Committee has established criteria for choosing honorees:

• The author must have lived in Iowa five or more years not counting years as a college student.
• The author must have written and published more than one book.
• Poets and journalists would not be considered if the person is solely a poet or a journalist.
