Comments from the author about writing: Writing about my military experience has given me the opportunity to share an unfamiliar world with the great majority of Americans, and Iowans, that have not served, while connecting with veterans of all service branches and conflicts. Though my writing is first a soldier's story, it's also uniquely a woman's story. I write no so much to tell about myself, but to start a conversation with my readers about the topics that concern us all: being our best, authentic selves, using our empowerment to inspire others, overcoming ethnic stereotypes and gender barriers, fostering compassion for our enemies and love for ourselves.
