Comments from the author about writing:
Ten years ago, when I retired as a high school principal because of post polio syndrome, I began looking for books with handicapped protagonists. And finding very few, I wrote Dead at the Desk, set in a small mid-western college in 1964. The main character, Loren Schneider, a polio survivor, is accused of strangling a professor because of his upper body strength. Loren and his girl friend spend their days trying to identify the real murderer. All I wanted was one book with my name on the spine. That's all. But, it wasn't long before one book wasn't enough...and so I wrote To Catch the Snowflakes: A memoir of a polio survivor, a teacher, an adoptive parent, a principal, and the father of an addict. Because of the positive response I tried my hand at a young adult novel, Willie McGuire and the Land of the People. My newest book Dead and Dixie Fried, is a sequel to Dead at the Desk. The antagonist is now married and teaching high school English. His wife is asked to be the matron of honor in an old friend's wedding, but the groom has requested that all male guests wear kilts. When the protagonist visits the local tanning salon, a Board of Education member is discovered fried in a tanning bed. The young teacher and his wife work to discover the murderer.
