Comments from the author about writing:
I love unearthing the stories that exist around me. Overhearing a brief exchange at the super market, watching an elder person saunter across the mall, seeing people interact over their lunch hours, encountering traffic during rush hour… there are unending stories. Some of my friends have accused me of being part anthropologist because I just love to observe people and extrapolate their meanings and motives. I’ll meet somebody and instead of thinking about whether I like them or dislike them, whether they are nice or mean, I think about how they would make a fascinating character in a book.
The other element of writing I enjoy is the art of combining and mixing. How would this character fare in a different setting? What would happen if these two people met? If the restaurant scene appeared before the park scene, how would the conversation change? Within that art of combining, I like to take complex business principles and whittle them to their core essentials and make a story out of them. It is fun to play with the business concepts which befuddle people the most.
Editing is the most difficult part of writing for me because I like to find just that one perfect word or phrase. And after a while, I become immune to my own work and need a fresh pair of outside eyes to help me. With writing comes humility because you have to be prepared for everybody’s opinion. I also have to have my filters on high to be prepared to accept or reject their feedback. The end product is always better for the experience, though.
