I was born to write. I don't know how not to. I write because I think that there are certain things that only I see, and if I don't write about them, no on else will.

• William Randolph Hearst, college feature writing contest, 1st place, 1974
• Iowa Board of Realtors news reporting award, 1975
• Women in Communication newspaper column writing award, 1995
• several fellowships to Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois, for playwriting, and several grants from the Iowa Humanities board, for plays, all in the nineties
• Des Moines Area Community College Playwriting Contest 2009
• Winning Monoluges in Riverside Theatre's Walking the Wire Contest 2009, 2007 and 2006
