As a middle school classroom teacher the world of young teenagers and preteens vividly surrounds me everyday. This world provides me with inspiration, countless possible narrative ideas, and eager critics. But because teaching itself is an art of storytelling, I have also discovered that my practice as a writer and my profession as a teacher compliment each other in unique ways. Bringing a world to life to intrigue a child, to provide them with moments of deeply felt contact with a story world, and to stir up laughter are some of the best rewards of being a writer for children.
