Comments from the author about writing:
I like to write because I like to share experiences with other people. In the guidebooks I've written, I want readers to get a sense of where I've been so that they might like to go there too. There are so many wondrous places that people haven't seen. I grew up in a military family and we were like long-term tourists, packing up every few years and exploring a new place....we didn't just live in places, we absorbed what we could about those places and I have to thank my parents for that. I think of readers as friends I'm writing to, or writing for....what would they like to know about what I saw, about the foods I've eaten, the people I've met, the historical places I've walked....not that I put the "I" into my books, I don't. I do that now and then on some stories for magazines and newspapers but overall I write in the third person for the books. I like to write some short stories occasionally and use them to nudge readers into thinking beyond the stories....what would they do in a similar situation?
