Comments from the author about writing:
I have always enjoyed writing and illustrating, especially photography and watercolors. With a background that includes science teaching and school librarianship, I was well positioned to answer one elementary school student's request for a book about geodes. I researched, wrote and illustrated "Geo the Geode" in response to that request. I am working on another "odd rock" book about agates. In the meantime I wrote and illustrated a non-fiction alphabet book focused on hot-air ballooning. "ABalloonC" has been well received by teachers, librarians, and, of course, fellow balloon enthusiasts. Writing, for me, is an almost subconscious activity. When I get an inspiration, I develop it in my head. When it has fully developed, I write it down and tightly edit the work. I am basically an 8-5 writer, PM not AM. I love storytelling and enjoy presenting my books to children. I take my writing seriously but being self-published limits the availability to get awards. I don't do print-on-demand, rather, I have my own publishing company and use printers and binders in Wisconsin and Iowa. I also like to do writing/illustrating/publishing workshops with young adults and adults.
