Garst, Rachel
Comments from the author about writing:
I have written primarily critical works about US aid and security programs in Central America, their relation to local public policy, and their effects on local people. I like to take complex issues that people may accept at face value (food aid, refugee assistance, police reform) and explain them in plain language to help the public think about them more critically. In addition, I enjoy writing grant proposals because they require both clarity of thought and salesmanship.
To date, I have written primarily for a Central American audience, therefore mostly in Spanish. On this Iowa authors’ website, I list just my English-language book.
