Perry Library will hold its annual All Iowa Reads community-wide book discussion at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, in the library Community Room. Perry has held an All Iowa Reads book discussion event since the project's inception in 2003, and we invite everyone to participate in this year's discussion of The Year We Left Home by Jean Thompson. We are delighted to have English instructor, author, and graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, George Minot as our guest discussion leader. We look forward to an engaging discussion about this intriguing book and encourage everyone who enjoys reading and talking about books to join us for this free event.
From the Simon & Schuster website:
"From National Book Award finalist Jean Thompson comes a mesmerizing, decades-spanning saga of one ordinary American family—proud, flawed, hopeful— whose story simultaneously captures the turbulent history of the country at large. . . The Year We Left Home follows the Erickson siblings as they confront prosperity and heartbreak, setbacks and triumphs, and seek their place in a country whose only constant seems to be breathtaking change. Ambitious, richly told, and fiercely American, this is a vivid and moving meditation on our continual pursuit of happiness and an incisive exploration of the national character."
