Novel Conversations is a book group hosted by the Coralville Public Library. The group meets at 7 pm on the third Thursday of each month and alternates between classic novels and recent works of fiction and nonfiction. Participants are welcome to come to all the meetings or just those that sound interesting. Everyone is welcome! Refreshments are served.
Multiple copies of each book are available for checkout in the library and are, whenever possible, made available in large print, audiobook, and ebook editions.
Once Upon a River - Bonnie Jo Campbell
Sixteen-year-old Margo Crane grows up in a troubled family in rural Michigan. After the violent death of her father, she decides to escape and look for her mother, taking to the river with only a few supplies and a biography of her heroine, Annie Oakley. Margo meets many men on her journey down the river, some who help her, some who hurt her, and some who do both. Like Huck Finn, she discovers much about herself and about America in the process, and so do those who read her story.
