Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart
In 1914, Constance Kopp and her sisters were out driving in their buggy when they were hit by a car driven by a wealthy businessman named Henry Kaufman. They want Kaufman to apologize and pay their expenses. He refuses—and he starts terrorizing them. So Constance teams up with the sheriff and does some sleuthing on her own to try to bring Kaufman to justice. Stewart’s novel is based on a true story, and the real life Constance became one of the country’s first female deputy sheriffs.
