Tell a story, a myth, legend, folktale, or personal story, recite a poem, sing a song or just come to listen at Telling for Tips at Ritual Cafe on 13th street in Downtown Des Moines September 18, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Professional Storytellers from all over the state will be there to entertain you for free while you sip a Ritual beer, some wine, or have a sandwich or dessert. They only request that if you like them, you tip them. From 8:30 to 9:00 there will be an open mic for all those who wish to recite or tell a story.
Mike Zahm: Known as the Woody Guthrie of the Iowa Storytellers will be there to entertain you with his songs, his guitar, and harmonica, and of course his unbelievable stories. This storyteller, song writer and singer, and musician, comes from Fort Dodge. As a retired school counselor he has tales to tell and he tells them using dry humor in the style of Woody Guthrie and Will Rogers. He doesn’t come to Des Moines all that often so make sure you come to hear him.
Bettie Jane Bibler: Is teller renown for her folktales, personal stories and her use of indigenous instruments. You will enjoy her warm style and the great sense of action that she brings to any story. Bettie Jane is a founding member of the Two Rivers Story Spinners professional guild in Des Moines. She also teaches storytelling and can be seen at festivals and conferences throughout the area.
Maureen Korte: This teller travels worldwide to tell and to teach as well as to learn about culture and story. She is seen locally in schools, businesses, libraries, book stores and public events telling stories from around the globe as well as stories of being raised the youngest in an Irish family. She also tells humorous stories of being married to a non –Irish man and of raising two sons. Everyone can identify and laugh with Maureen as she tells her stories.
