Best-selling author Mildred Kalish returns to Des Moines as one of the recipients of this year's Iowa Author Award and will give a noon talk about her popular book, "Little Heathens: Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm during the Great Depression." Her best-selling memoir describes life's simple pleasures and how her grandparents instilled a spirit of hope and joy in her for years to come.
