Family Book Club at the Clive Public Library
Families with children ages 10 and older are welcome to attend. We’ll share excellent books, great discussions and a chance to spend some quality time together. We will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Some copies of each selection will be available for check out at the Library the month before. September 2, October 7, November 4, December 2.
Family Story Time at the Clive Public Library
Join us on most Sunday afternoons during the fall and winter for some fun family stories. No registration required, so just drop in whenever you can from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. September 7, 14, 21, 28, October 5, 12, November 2, 9, 16, 23, December 7, 14, January 11, 18, 25, February 1, 8, 15, 22, March 1.
Bookin' with Judy at the Clive Public Library
Judy invites 6-10 year old children twice a month on Tuesdays to share in book discussions, reading and crafts. Books to be read and discussed will be distributed the first program of each session. Limit 20 per session. Programs are 4:15 - 5:15 p.m. Registration starts August 25. September 9, 23, October 7, 21. Books to the Rescue-Part I.
Baby Sign Class-Level I Beginners
Clive Public Library. This four week class for hearing parents and babies will teach different vocabulary and techniques from American Sign Language to continue communicating with your baby. Each week will build on the previous week’s lesson. Limit 20 babies with parents. Registration starts August 25. September 15, 22, 29, October 6. 6:30 p.m. -7:15 p.m. Pre-register for Fall August 25 Session begins September 8.
Toddler Time - Fall Session
Clive Public Library Register for this program of 20 fun-filled minutes of songs, finger plays, flannel board stories and other favorite stories for the toddler (3 and younger) and an adult. Story Time - Fall Session
Clive Public Library - Preschoolers (3 and older) are invited to this 30-minute program of book-related fun. Program highlights include read-a-louds, puppets, flannel board stories, songs and much, much more. Adults are invited to enjoy free coffee or tea while their children are in the program. Baby Lap Time - Fall Session
Clive Public Library - Enjoy this 15-minute program for children 0-18 months of age (not yet walking) with an adult. This is bonding time for the adult and child and models beginning literacy skills with the use of stories, nursery rhymes, music and songs. A conversation with William Kent Krueger
Mr. Krueger is the author of the Cork O'Connor mystery series set in Northern Minnesota. He will be speaking at the Tilford Elementary School, 308 E. 13th Street, Vinton, IA on Monday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The Life of Laura Ingalls Wilder
Pella Public Library. Sarah Uthoff will present a program about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the popular Little House on the Prairie series of children's books. 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th in the library meeting room. The program is appropriate for all ages.
Non-Violence Book Club @ Ames Public Library

An Afternoon with the Author: Margaret Shepherd
Saturday, September 13 at 2pm, Community Room, Ames Public Library. Join us for an afternoon with noted calligrapher and author Margaret Shepherd. Shepherd's newest book, "The Art of the Personal Letter," reclaims the lost art of letter writing in the age of cell phones, e-mail, and text messaging.
Reading Fun For All Storytime Workshop
Monday, September 15 and Monday, September 22, 6-8:30pm, Community Room, Ames Public Library. Join us for a hands-on workshop that will give the training you need to become competent and confident in making reading an enjoyable and educational experience for children in small or large groups. We'll cover everything from how to pick out books to effective reading aloud strategies and other supportive elements. This workshop is open to any interested adult and would be of particular interest to childcare providers. The material is cumulative, so plan to attend both nights. Registration is required. Lets Talk About It @ Ames Public Library
Tuesday, September 16 at 7pm, Community Room, Ames Public Library. Let's Talk About It book discussion group meets once a month to discuss a work chosen from the semester's theme, "Exploring the West...Whose West?" and to learn more about the author. The selection for September is "Legacy of Conquest: The Unbroken Past of the American West" by Patricia Nelson Limerick. Organizing this history of the American West around the notion of "conquest," Limerick examines the ways in which the myths of the west--both as open space to be settled and as sage wilderness to be tamed--have allowed those in power to defend their claims to property and resources.
