2008 Iowa Winners Announced in Letters About Literature

In addition to first, second and third place winners, three students are named honorable mentions in each reading level.

The 2008 Iowa winners and semifinalists in Letters About Literature have been chosen by Iowa judges.  The Iowa winner at each level advances to national competition. Nationwide, over 58,000 students entered the 2008 Letters About Literature contest.

There were 1,394 entries from students in Iowa.

  • 474 from students in grades 4 through 6
  • 696 from students in grades 7 and 8
  • 224 from students in grades 9 through 12

The 2008 Iowa winner at each level will receive a cash prize of $50 plus a $50 Target GiftCard.  The students who placed second and third at each level will receive a $50 cash prize and the three honorable mentions will receive $25.

At the national level, two winners plus four honorable mentions will be selected for each competition level.  The national winners will be announced in April.  There are prizes at the national level also. 

Letters About Literature is a national reading-writing program sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in partnership with Target Stories.  The Iowa Center for the Book is the Iowa sponsor.
